Maastoren
The Maastoren - with its 165 meters – is officially the tallest building in the Netherlands. The design of the Maastoren is characterized by two high towers of 100 and 165 meters. Dutch Dam & Partners Architects, together with the French architect Odile Benoit Cornette Decq, are responsible for the design of the tower.
With the development of the Maastoren, the city of Rotterdam's reputation as a high-rise architecture city was reinforced. The Maastoren is a new icon on the horizon.
Moreover, the Maastoren is a wonderful example of innovation in sustainability. The building makes clever use of the flowing water from the nearby river Maas. The water is used for the sprinkler system and together with sources in the ground to heat and cool the entire building. There is no longer additional cooling or heating necessary for temperature peaks in the seasons and the CO2 emissions reduced 50% compared to traditional construction. This in itself constitutes a significant contribution towards Rotterdam’s ambition to become one of the world’s forty cleanest cities, as defined in the Clinton Climate Initiative by former US President Bill Clinton.
Awards:
The Maastoren won the innovation award 2007 "Vernufteling" for the design of the extremely sustainable energy concept of the building.
The Maastoren is officially nominated for the ambitious FGH property price, which will be presented November 8, 2010.
