Sustainability, not something you simply talk about too much. Something you simply do. In 2007 OVG was one of the first in the real estate market to start working on the subject. Jolted awake by Al Gore, inspired by the Clinton Global Initiative, we felt we had to radically adapt our way of developing. We realized that our purpose in life must be to set up new development methods that take account of future scarcities: of land, raw materials, energy, the natural environment and clean air. After all, everything that is scarce is actually priceless. We were not being very intelligent as an industry if we want to keep buildings environmentally sound and affordable for our clients.

Building sustainably proved very simple. Ultimately it is about your state of mind and your ability as a team to want to go looking for innovation. Plenty of which proved to be available at suppliers and universities. With our own Sustainability Center we want to be the green driving force in our sector. The company that excels in sustainability. In recent years our projects have demonstrated that there are many perspectives to sustainability but it is actually all about environmentally sound building practice.

Our most wonderful discovery is the realization that sustainability does not have to be more expensive, because you are simply making smarter buildings. Take the TNT Centre for example. A blueprint for a sustainable and CO2 neutral building at a competitive price. The proof already exists. Developed during the crisis and totally self-sufficient in energy. The technology for 2011. Anything is possible.
