Wednesday September 28, Florence Jeantet, vice-president R&D Danone Baby Nutrition and Hanno Cappon, vice-president R&D Danone Medical Nutrition performed the breaking ground ceremony for the new Danone Innovation Centre in Utrecht.
They were assisted in this by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation, Chris Buijink, Alderman Economic Affairs, Mirjam de Rijk, the President of the Executive Board of Utrecht University, Yvonne van Rooy, the vice-president of Danone Research, Jean-Philippe Paré, the regional director of BAM Utiliteitsbouw, Eric Moleman and the chairman of OVG Nederland, Bas van Holten.
All those involved celebrated the start of building of the Innovation Centre for Danone in Utrecht after a successful preparatory period lasting less than a year. For OVG this is an ideal opportunity to apply their expertise in the field of sustainable offices to research buildings. The offices section of the innovation centre, designed by Cepezed, has already been awarded the BREEAM-EXCELLENT design certificate. Bam Utiliteitsbouw from Utrecht is in charge of the engineering and construction. This major project of around 20,000 m2 is scheduled for completion in second quarter 2013.
The new innovation centre is being built on the Utrecht Science Park, a leading international clustering of scientific research and knowledge-intensive activities on the Uithof site. De Uithof Science-Business campus is located to the east of the city adjacent to the A28, close to the Rijnsweerd interchange. A Park & Ride with 2,000 spaces is now being built by the A28 junction, right next to the location for Danone. With its direct and fast link to Utrecht Central Station, De Uithof also has excellent accessibility by public transport. A tram link to Utrecht CS is under construction.
Danone will be combining the R&D activities currently located in The Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain in this building and giving them room to grow. The high quality scientific research from the new international research center will provide support for the brands of Danone’s baby food and medical nutrition divisions, including Nutricia with its traditionally strong links to The Netherlands. AOS Studley is assisting Danone during the development.
